Training Challenge by Christl Faltner - ‘in’ cue

On this course, I would like to test different skills but mainly have an option to train the ‘in’ cue. On some spots on the course, I also want to test when an ‘in’ would be better and when a double blind cross will keep the speed. When I design courses, I always think about what I want to train, what's hard for me, which solutions I would choose for my large dog (Belgian shepherd) and if I would choose different ones for my small dog (Papillon).

This training course starts with quite an easy-looking speedy part with a weave entry that is (at the moment) difficult for my dog. At the first weaves, it's also possible to test the independence to finish the weaves alone, because at obstacle 7, I would already like to try the first ‘in’. Another option is to send to the back of obstacle 7 and rear cross, or if you are fast, a German turn.

For obstacle 10, I would use a flick and let the dog find the weaves. At obstacle 14, try whether an ‘in’ cue or a double blind keeps the flow better. Try to get on the lower side of 16 to help your dog turn in the direction of the tunnel and get a straight line for 17.

For obstacle 19, you can either send out or, if your dog finds tunnels independently, take a short cut in between 19 and 20 and try to make an in on 19. For obstacle 2,1 you need to help the dog with a tight turn. How you will do that depends on how you want your dog to turn on 22. If you choose the long way on 22 I would try a front cross on 21. I would choose this option for my Belgian Shepherd. With my Papillon, on the other hand, I would collect on 21 and wrap on 22 to weaves.

For 25, I need an independent out, so that I can choose to stay near the weaves and do an ‘in’ on 26, or do a blind cross between 25 and 26, send out on 26 and do ‘in’ on 27. This would help to get forward to help more with the out on 29.

Obstacle 31 is an ‘in’ again and again from 32 to the weaves I can try different solutions to get to the right side of the weaves. I would send to the back of 32 in an S-line and send the dog with my left hand to the weaves and continue up to the straight finish line

Hope you enjoy my little challenge!
